Mrs. Vertie S. Childress, age 95, of Stone Street, Gainesville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7th, at New Horizons North Nursing Home following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9th, in the Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Taylor and Rev. Clack Stubbs will officate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Childress was born in Madison,GA, to the late Thomas Jefferson Shelton and Martha Corelia Shelton. She was a retired salesperson at a department store in Louisiana and moved back to Hall County in 1976. Mrs. Childers loved flowers and gardening, and was a member of New Holland Baptist Church.

Suvivors include her son, Henry L. Childress,Jr.,Largo,FL; son, J. Rudolph Childress, Gainesville,GA; son, Ronald L Childress, Lynch Station,VA; son, Donald Dee Childress, Lynch State,VA; daughter, Edna C. Brownlow, Gainesville; 15 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
