Clayton County school consider changing start times
By The Associated Press
Clayton County schools plan public hearings tomorrow on a proposal to change start and dismissal times for classes.
The first hearing will be held at noon, with the second at 7 p.m. at the boardroom in the administrative complex in Jonesboro.
The new start times would be 15 minutes earlier for elementary schools. Middle schools would start 20 minutes later, and high schools would start 15 minutes earlier.
Dismissal times would change to compensate for the changes in start times.
School officials say they want to change start times to reduce the need for more bus drivers, buses and fuel.
The school board for the system south of Atlanta is expected to consider the change in start times at its meeting next Monday.
