Three sentenced to life for trailer park murder
By The Associated Press
Three men have been sentenced to life in prison, after a Houston County jury found them guilty of murder in the beating and shooting death of a 21-year-old man at a Warner Robins trailer park.
Kyle Oree, 33, Benny Frank Durham Jr., 19, and Jamaal Durrell Williams, 19, all were convicted of killing Robert Daughtry Jr. on April 8, 2003, then dumping his body in a trash compactor.
Prosecutors said Daughtry was killed after a dispute with Oree, the leader of a rap group called OCF, which stands for Original Chryme Family. They said the men were angry because Daughtry had pulled away from the group to pursue a solo career.
On the day of the killing, Daughtry was beaten in his home, dragged down a street in the mobile home park, thrown over a wall and shot seven times. The men then disposed of the body in a trash compactor.
In addition to the murder convictions, Oree was found guilty of kidnapping, aggravated battery and aggravated assault; Durham was found guilty of kidnapping, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; and Williams was convicted of kidnapping, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm.
Two other men, 19-year-old Melvin Cheven Daniels and 17-year-old Alex Marshall, also are serving life sentences after already pleading guilty to similar charges for their roles in the murder.
The victim's father, Robert Daughtry Sr., said Wednesday that he was satisfied with the outcome.
"This doesn't bring my son back," he said. "The thing I wanted most was justice for my son. I think we've gotten that because nobody got away with it."
