Heavy rains result in a road closure for SauteeBy Katie Crumley Access Insider SAUTEE - State Route 255 in Sautee will be closed all day Tuesday as crews work to replace a drainage pipe that caved in following Sunday's heavy rains.
"We had the shoulder of State Route 255 in Sautee collapse just north of its intersection with State Route 17," said Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Teri Pope. Pope said the collapsed shoulder then caused the drainage pipe underneath to cave in as well. "We've got to get this drainage pipe replaced before the next heavy rains or we're going to have major problems with standing water and issues on State Route 255," she said. Pope said they'll have to dig up the roadway and shoulder area in order to remove the drainage pipe and replace it. She said crews will then build back the road on top of the new pipe. © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
