GAINESVILLE—GTO 2000, a national provider of transportation logistics services, has been certified as a SmartWaySM Transport partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
SmartWay Transport is an innovative collaboration between the freight industry and EPA to address environmental issues associated with transportation such as greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.
“GTO 2000 has established sustainability and environmental responsibility as part of our core business mission,” said Gregg Gordon, GTO 2000 president. “This public-private initiative will help significantly improve the environment while reducing transport operating costs.”
The goal of SmartWay Transport is to lessen the impact of freight transportation on the environment by promoting reduced truck idling, improved pick-up and delivery scheduling, use of intermodal shipping, and other strategies to reduce the carbon footprint.
Efforts of the partnership will reduce fuel consumption for trucks delivering freight, improve operating costs associated with freight delivery and decrease the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
