Gainesville's Turkey Trot drew much larger crowd this yearBy Katie Crumley Access Insider GAINESVILLE - It was a larger-than-expected crowd Thursday morning at the 2nd Annual Turkey Trot in Gainesville.
Race organizers said over 150 people registered for the race but dozens more showed up at the Riverside Military Academy track for the 5K, 10K and Half-Marathon race. That's a huge increase from the approximately 30 runners who turned out for last year's race, sponsored by Baxter's Multi-Sport. The race began at 8 a.m., and the course included a loop around Brenau University and the American Legion post on Riverside Drive. In lieu of a registration fee, runners were asked to bring several canned food items, which will be donated to a local charity. © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
