Volunteer firefighter dies after lounge shooting

SAVANNAH - A volunteer firefighter died Monday morning at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah after being shot outside a lounge in the Sandfly community near Savannah.

Wesley Franklin, 21, died after being shot outside Deb's Pub and Grub about 2 a.m. Sunday. He was a volunteer firefighter with Isle of Hope Fire Department, Assistant Chief Marcus Wilson said.

Franklin was shot when he went outside the lounge after he heard a gunshot, according to Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller.

Police believe Franklin saw a man who was attempting to rob a patron outside the lounge.
