Crews battle brush fire in LawrencevilleBy Martin Dotson Staff Crews battled scorching heat while fighting a brush fire in Gwinnett Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire at Alexander Park, located at 800 Old Snellville Highway in Lawrenceville. The fire threatened multiple acres within the park. A check of the perimeter revealed that the fire was contained to approximately five acres of dense brush on a hilly area. Crews requested additional equipment, due to the large area involved and the high temperatures. The fire was quickly extinguished within an hour without any damage to any structures. Approximately 30 firefighters were utilized to battle the blaze. There are no injuries to report. The fire was started by a Model Rocket that was shot off in the park. Gwinnett County Police Department arrested a 42 year old Male for the violation. The park remains open at this time. © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
