Three new weather sirens installed in GainesvilleBy Katie Crumley Access Insider GAINESVILLE - Three new outdoor warning sirens have been installed in Gainesville.
Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada said the new sirens are located on Tommy Aaron Drive off Thompson Bridge Road, at the Lanier Point Softball Complex off Dawsonville Highway and at City of Gainesville Fire Station #4 off Memorial Park Road. "These three areas allowed us to put those sirens in, and the coverage area is about a square mile radius," he said. Canada said the new sirens were purchased with grant money they received from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. "We are glad that we were able to receive some assistance in funding and proceed with a project that impacts all of our citizens," he said. Canada said he wants to remind citizens that the new sirens may only be audible outdoors, so he urged them to have another device, such as a weather radio, on hand in their homes to warn them in case of severe weather. © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
