Good News Clinics kicks off Hope2Hall campaignBy Staff GAINESVILLE. Good News Clinics board of directors plans to raise $80,000 by this fall to support the non-profit medical and dental clinics that serve the Hall County area.
The Hope2Hall challenge officially got underway Sunday and runs through September 15, according to board members. Under the challenge, for every dollar raised in the next two months, Good News Clinics (GNC) has the opportunity to receive a matching grant up to $80,000. "This matching grant is a wonderful opportunity for us to provide hope to many in Hall County who are struggling right now," says GNC executive director Cheryl Christian. "There are an estimated 30,000 uninsured individuals in Hall County." Christian said that GNC accepts about 150 new patients each month. Many of these new patients are 50 years of age and older and have found themselves without health insurance for the first time in their lives. Gainesville dentist Richard Bennett is president of Good News Clinics board of directors. "Our goal is to continue providing free primary medical care, dental care, medications, and specialty referrals to those in need, said Bennett. "The Sam Poole Medical Clinic and Green Warren Dental Clinic serve approximately 1,000 individuals each month. Patient care is provided by volunteer physicians and dentists throughout the community. With the merger of Health Access we are now managing the referral to specialists who so generously donate their services to those in need. With this additional responsibility we have added some cost and the matching opportunity will help us help those most in need. Gifts made to the Hope2Hall Challenge will support the general operating expenses of the Clinics. "Each patient visit costs an average of $50," said James Butts, MD, GNC medical director. Every gift makes a difference and many small gifts will quickly grow to help us meet our goal. Link box: Link: Good News Clinics © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
