White County's Rowland finishes second at GSGA match
White County's Wilton Rowland caught fire on the second day of the GSGA Junior Sectional Challenge Match on Tuesday to finish second overall in the boys 14-15 age division.
Rowland fired a 1-under 71 on Tuesday at Valdosta Country Club in Valdosta to finish with a two-day total of 150, finishing three shots behind winner Stanton Schorr.
Rowland recorded a disappointing 79 after the first day of competition on Monday but came from five shots back and had the low round of the day on Tuesday. Rowland recorded just one double bogey over the entire tournament.
"All in all I was really happy with the way that my swing was this week, and I am looking forward to my fall season of tournaments," Rowland said of his performance in the tournament that required players to qualify.
The 14-15-year-old field featured 27 competitors. The tournament also featured plenty of other golfers of other age brackets, including White County golfers Jackson and Daniel Rowland.
Both Jackson Rowland and Daniel Rowland competed in the 11-and-under division, playing nine holes each day. Jackson Rowland carded a 98 and finished tied for 18th, while Daniel Rowland had a two day total of 110 and came in 24th.
