Fire reported at vacant home near Brenau University

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville firefighters were on the scene of a residential fire near Brenau University Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Chief Jon Canada said crews responded to the 1000 block of Park Street, where they discovered heavy flames coming from the second floor of the approximately 2,000-square-foot structure.

"There was nobody home, this was a vacant home, so no one was living here and there were no injuries to firefighters," he said.

Canada said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
