CUMMING - Emergency officials in Forsyth County said it was about 10:40 a.m. Friday when the county's 911 center was fully back online. The center experienced some issues following heavy storms Thursday afternoon.

The main system when down during the height of the storms. Sheriff's Captain Tim House said they believe lightning hit on or near a building where the county's radio equipment is housed.

While it may sound harrowing, House said they have backup plans in place for this sort of thing.

"At no time were the citizens in Forsyth County ever without the ability to get to emergency services if they needed them. We have been operating and talking on our backup systems since yesterday (Thursday) afternoon," House said.

While not optimum, House said they can go for a while on the backup system.

"We do have contingencies in place, and we could work for days and weeks off the backup systems that we have," House said.
